A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the county's top official conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future without fear.”

The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people shouting “6-7” – deriving from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A Peaceful Retirement

This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a notably cheerful message.

“It captures the essence of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and based in heritage that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
