Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer who crafted some of the most iconic looks worn by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died aged 80.

His reputation was built on his architectural shapes and performative fashion, most notably the light-hued ensembles that featured in rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' Duran Duran shared a message across their platforms."

This news arrives just weeks after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress that paid homage to the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" historically worn by the late Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to study at the prestigious Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the label Stirling Copper and was behind the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger sported during the iconic group's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by looks from model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the marriage dress Price designed for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Working with Legends

A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price created the iconic jacket the singer wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His trademark skill to fuse tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping form-fitting garments cemented his status as a "true original," according to the UK's fashion authority.

During the nineties, he began working on outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including a number of outfits for her US tour after assuming the title.

After a career spanning over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London recently in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

  • Architectural Forms: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Theatrical Flair: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Working with Stars and Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.

The fashion world says farewell to a authentic original whose influence on the visual landscape of music remains indelibly etched.
