Recently, Battlefield Studios launched a new playlist called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough format but includes a few key changes:
So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it offers a casual take of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives more options for players seeking alternative methods to have fun with the game. But, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 players are mad.
"People want real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states a response to the mode reveal. "Truly disappointing idea," says a different user. Meanwhile, in community forums, one user remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," and another lists everything they believe to be problematic in Battlefield 6: "Fix bugs, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," reads one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who actually go outside and can't play this game 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply on Twitter explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it could increase queue times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. Similarly, certain regions often face mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of real players, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the player base meeting them in the middle, according to a Reddit comment. A different user labels this mode as the devs "dropping the ball so hard, I had so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"
If the development team has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
