Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Manama, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in response for a significant and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area close to the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any impact is unclear and the United States has remained silent.
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to US military bases - stated they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the region.
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said in a statement it was striking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the offensive on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.
That preceding assault - executed at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted locations associated with the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump urging the Iranian people to revolt against the leadership.
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with great effectiveness and successfully intercepted a number of missiles," it added.
It said wreckage landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
