Jurgen Klopp states a return to lead Liverpool is plausible in theory.

The German coach, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, indicated that a future comeback is an option. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-year spell which brought continental glory and ending the club's long wait since 1990, has since taken on positions as head of global soccer for Red Bull and providing guidance with the German Football League.

Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments

They secured England's top flight in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters who adore the manager would be thrilled by the possibility of his potential comeback. Speaking candidly, he explained to the podcast host: “I stated I won't manage another team on English soil. Which implies if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. In theory, it could happen.”

“Being 58, that means I could make the decision down the line, I don’t know. Do I have to make the decision today? Then I will not coach again. Luckily, it's not necessary. I can just see what the future brings.”

Conditions for a Comeback

Pressed on what circumstances would need to occur to draw him back to the dugout, he revealed he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, I love what I do right now,” he commented. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip media briefings multiple times weekly or doing numerous chats each week.

“No nostalgia for the changing area as a dressing room, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad talking freely, I appreciate that. With many victories thus frequently positive atmosphere at the club. I still have Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears to illustrate.”

Commending Arne Slot

He commended of the current boss, praising him due to the changes that took the title in the previous season. Liverpool have lost a string of losses across various tournaments after a summer spending spree, though he denied the idea that it might signal the start of a downward turn.

“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker such as Wirtz, you will all eat your words if spoken against. He’s an incredible talent. [Hugo] Ekitike, incredible player. This is a well-built balanced team. No need for concern regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”

Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward

Klopp also spoke emotionally on the loss of the Portuguese star, whom he brought in during his tenure, and the effect at the club. The forward lost his life in a vehicle collision with his brother in July.

“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, it’s the guy he was. I struggle to conceive the team environment missing him. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. A profound tragedy for all the boys also. Not a single person would cite it to justify results but it is the situation. Entering the changing area where he was omnipresent. Handling this on a personal level is difficult. Unbearable.”
