Manchester City's manager Voices Regret Over Camera Operator Altercation Following Defeat to Newcastle

Pep Guardiola has admitted experiencing "embarrassment" after a confrontation with a TV crew member in the wake of the Citizens' 2-1 defeat away to the Magpies this past weekend.

When the match concluded, a visibly upset Guardiola entered the St James’ Park pitch and had heated discussions with the referee, Sam Barrott and Magpies midfielder Bruno Guimarães, while also handling the broadcast crew's equipment.

"I apologised," the manager remarked. "I'm humiliated, regretful, when I see it. I don’t like it. I immediately apologized to the operator. I am who I am. With a thousand matches under my belt I'm far from perfect, errors happen."

"One thing is certain, I stand by my team and club, that’s for sure. Why I support my squad is no doubt – because from my experience to win the Premier League we have to do 100 points, 98 points, otherwise we don’t win it."

City's Position and Guardiola's Assessment

The team sits in third and trail leaders Arsenal by seven points following their fourth loss of the season. "Losing four games out of 12 means we must do better," Guardiola admitted. "Technically, we can still achieve all."

The manager was asked if this meant the quadruple could be achieved, he responded: "You are an experienced journalist, have you ever heard me discuss four trophies last winter during our historic run? No."

Exchange with Bruno

Regarding his confrontation with the Newcastle player, Guardiola said: "We have known Bruno a long time and post-match, home or away, we talk in the tunnel. We often meet and we get along well. I enjoy it. I'm passionate, I love to talk and move my hands."

He wouldn't mind should a rival coach addressed his squad right after the final whistle. "No - as long as you talk with respect as I do, it’s not a problem," he said, before referencing Barrott. "The referee was involved for 95 minutes, 98 minutes, constantly. My God, he was involved."

Controversial Decisions

The team felt aggrieved that the officials did not award City a penalty for a Fabian Schär challenge against Foden, and doubted if Guimarães was offside when Harvey Barnes scored the decisive strike. Pictures published later indicate the Brazilian was onside.

Next Big Match

He will manage of his 100th Champions League game versus Leverkusen this week. "It’s quite good, showing we compete annually," he commented.

City have 10 points after four games in the group, and Leverkusen hold five.
