Micky van de Ven Brace Halts The Toffees' Run at New Home Ground

The Tottenham defender scored on two occasions as Tottenham extended their unbeaten run in away games in the Premier League and handed the Toffees their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

This victory elevates Thomas Frank's side into third place in the Premier League, five points off north London rivals and leaders Arsenal.

The Merseyside club remain 14th and are half a dozen points ahead of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven fulfils role at each end of the field

After a uninspiring midweek display in the European competition against the French side, where they mustered a only two shots on goal, Frank opted for Randal Kolo Muani in attack instead of former Toffees player the Brazilian.

The summer signing was unable to influence the game before being substituted for Richarlison after an hour on the pitch, but it turns out he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Centre-back the Dutchman converted into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's first goal came from a cleverly executed corner routine, with Rodrigo Bentancur heading the ball back across the face of goal for an unmarked the defender to score.

And the captain - filling in as skipper in Cristian Romero's absence - notched his second in first-half stoppage time as he outjumped Jordan Pickford to nod in.

The Dutchman was equally outstanding in defensive duties, partnering well with Kevin Danso as the duo dealt superbly with the numerous deliveries sent their way by Everton.

Toffees breakdown: Toffees lacking striker's instinct

Everton's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the freshness may have faded slightly and supporters flocked to the exits after Sarr's third for Tottenham.

The break in Everton's unbeaten home run will not be a major concern for David Moyes, but their striker situation will be.

The forward and the other striker - the Toffees' pair of recognised centre-forwards - had netted just a single goal combined before the weekend's outing.

And they were unable to contribute to that miserable tally on a damp and dreary night on Merseyside.
