The network's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Earns a Major Extension for an Additional Two Seasons.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel unveiled a fresh animated series with a markedly softer feel. Haha, You Clowns proved to be gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. During a period often characterized by bleakness, this show's sincerity found an audience and propelled it a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

In mid-December, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been picked up for two additional seasons. This offers showrunner Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three respectful teenage brothers whose primary trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the audience of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," stated Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."

Network Praise

The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who found the show and supported its uniquely offbeat appeal.

"All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "To quote: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Different Kind of Comedy

Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about watching this charming family go about their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa expressed his hope to help comedy break out of its prevailing sarcastic tone. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.

“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well catalyze that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences additional episodes to bask in the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns is scheduled to air on December 21st. The complete first season is ready to watch on HBO Max.
