The Princess of Wales's Annual Yuletide Musical Celebration Honours Community Volunteers

Her Royal Highness has organised her customary festive musical service at Westminster Abbey, with a congregation comprising royals, celebrities and local heroes who have supported their local areas.

The 1,600 guests will listen to a mix of carols, music and readings from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

A Theme of Compassion and Love

The focus of the concert, held in the atmospheric historic church on the afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.

Attending the event are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose daughter died of a brain cancer, and who set up a charity, Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to help households where there is a youngster facing a life-limiting condition.

"The time, care and compassion you give, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an remarkable change to the circumstances of individuals," Her Royal Highness stated in a letter ahead of the carol service.

A Gradual Return

The princess has been making her own steady comeback to public life after her cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Performance and Potential

Guests arriving at the Abbey can listen to budding artists aided by the Future Talent charity, established in part by the former royal to increase availability of music lessons.

Carys Wood, aged 18, who is a trumpet player and is from Wales, has been helped by the trust, with funding assisting with equipment, teaching, and travel fees - and she said it was "amazing" to be playing at the evening's event.

"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now a student at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to cultivate their performance abilities.

Generations Gathering

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who performs on the brass instrument, will also be at the Abbey. "I never thought I'd be able to play there in front of so many distinguished guests," she said.

Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.

That will feature young Saphia Turner, nine, recipient of a young hero award, who sells artwork and carries out sponsored challenges to collect donations for food banks.

Festive Decor and Performances

The Abbey has been festooned with custom-created holiday decorations, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

Taking to the stage will be Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a nautical singing ensemble, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the chance to take part was "the perfect culmination."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be televised and shown on a major network on Christmas Eve.
