The skiing legend Optimistic of Being 'in a good place' for Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics

American skiing icon Lindsey Vonn states she will be "in a good place" for the upcoming Winter Olympics, after securing a top-three finish for the fourth instance in five World Cup events.

The 41-year-old, who achieved a milestone by becoming the oldest downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super giant slalom in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This was her 142nd career World Cup podium finish.

Strong Return in Val d'Isere

Returning to the iconic venue for the first occasion in almost a decade, Vonn crossed the line in a time of one minute 20.60 seconds. She was 0.36 seconds behind winner Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson securing the runner-up spot.

"I didn't quite have the right line on the first jump," the skier commented. "After that, I skied well. I'm pleased with my run today, unlike in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough."

This performance was her second podium at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also claimed bronze in the downhill on Saturday.

A Remarkable Comeback from Retirement

Vonn officially retired in early 2019 due to ongoing knee problems. However, she staged a competitive comeback in December 2024 following a major knee surgery.

With just over six weeks remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are set to run from 6-22 February, Vonn's performances are highly promising.

She already possesses an Olympic gold and two bronze medals from previous Games and is firmly on track to represent the United States at the next Olympics.

"At the Olympics, I will be where I need to be," the athlete confirmed.

Chasing More Titles

In addition to her Games aspirations, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four World Cup titles she has secured over a professional journey spanning two decades.

She currently holds a substantial lead at the top of the downhill World Cup rankings and is ranked fifth in the overall super-G standings.

This season's World Cup campaign features a nine more events taking place before the circuit finale in Kvitfjell, Norway on March 21st, 2026.
