Toronto Blue Jays Claim World Series Matchup Versus Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros securing the World Series in 2017.

Toronto's Blue Jays reached their maiden Fall Classic since the 1993 season by beating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.

Behind by two runs, outfielder George Springer delivered a three-run blast in the seventh inning, leading the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 win in the seven-game series. Next up are the Dodgers, the team that is the defending champions, in the upcoming Fall Classic.

"It's incredible for everyone here, Toronto, Canada," said Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "What an incredible feeling."

George Springer has now connected for 23 post-season home runs, placing him third on the list after Ramirez (29) and Altuve (27).

"I can't think of another player on planet Earth that I'd choose in that moment except for George Springer with his playoff prowess," noted Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, are still the one club yet to make an appearance in a Fall Classic.

Wilson commented "certainly that it's painful" after his side's defeat at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but applauded their work this season.

"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we finished on the losing end of this game," he remarked.

Toronto secured the World Series on both previous visits in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Los Angeles in game one on the upcoming Friday.
