Two Victims Revealed in Brown University Attack as Authorities Persist in Hunt for Killer.

Two students who were killed in the weekend's tragic incident in Providence were being remembered Monday – as a manhunt for their assailant continued following the freeing by Rhode Island officials of the only individual detained in connection in the case.

Honoring a Lost Student

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was remembered as “an incredible, grounded, faithful, bright light”, per the Advent Cathedral in Birmingham, which paid tribute to her at a service on Sunday.

Cook was the vice-presidency of Brown’s division of College Republicans of America, the group said. Karoline Leavitt also shared sympathies on social media, stating: “There are no words. Thinking of her family and friends, particularly her mother and father.”

The Second Victim

The second fatality was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, from Uzbekistan in his initial year at the prestigious university, his family confirmed.

His name was confirmed by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. He had big dreams of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and aiding others,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a memorial statement.

Details of the Attack

An additional nine individuals were hurt in Saturday’s attack in the engineering department of Brown’s university in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Officials stated by the end of Sunday that a 24-year-man detained in a search at a Hampton Inn about approximately 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was released from custody.

“A perpetrator remains free,” stated Peter Neronha, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you need to change course and head another way, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last approximately one day.”

Ongoing Concerns

Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, admitted: “This will probably generate renewed concern for our public”.

The assailant opened fire inside a classroom in the engineering building on Saturday afternoon, shooting over four dozen bullets from a handgun, a police source reported to the news agency.

Law enforcement that searched the inn recovered a pair of pistols and magazines when the suspect was arrested, according to reports.

Condition of the Injured

Of the nine hurt, a single scholar was discharged from care, mentioned the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven more were in grave but unchanging health, and one remained in critical care, authorities stated on Sunday.

Durham Academy, a private K-12 school in the city of Durham, said a recent graduate, Kendall Turner, was among those critically wounded.

Cook was honored at a religious service in Birmingham on Sunday. A reverend stated, “She shone as a remarkable, stable, devout beacon not only in her youth... but at Brown University she was an incredible light in that specific location as well.”

The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the club. “Ella was known for her courageous, valiant, and compassionate nature as she worked for her branch and peers,” he said.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by Umurzokov’s death in a message. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to his relatives, friends, and schoolmates and lament the passing of his potential.”

The fatal shooting at Brown, the seventh oldest in the US university with about over seven thousand undergraduate and 3,000 graduate students, happened during one of at least 392 shooting incidents recorded nationally so far in the current year, according to data. That Monday marked the 349th day of the year.
